Hi! You need references? Try wikipedia I hear they are good!Homotox 23:17, 13 August 2008 (CDT)
A couple of policy questions
I also raised the question on the Talk:Scientific method page, but I would like to raise it here in greater detail.
Wikipedia (WP) has two important rules:
- No original research - and consequently everything must be cited.
- A Neutral Point of View. (NPOV).
The fact that WP has these rules does not mean that every wiki has to follow the same pattern.
Original research: Some of the contributors to this wiki may well have carried out their own research and wish to write about it here. Should they be allowed to do so, or will they only be able to do so if somebody else has already written about the same thing so they can cite it?
- Original unpublished research should not be published here first. Original research published elsewhere can be documented or referenced here. CAMwikiAdmin 02:04, 23 August 2008 (CDT)
Neutral Point of View: Does this wiki wish to have a neutral point of view? --Bob M 05:08, 22 August 2008 (CDT)
- Can you please explain what you mean by NPV? CAMwikiAdmin 02:04, 23 August 2008 (CDT)
- A Neutral Point of View means that equal weight is given to both sides of the argument. That is to say that both sides of any issue are explained and the wiki takes no position on which side is right. Many would argue that wikis which explicitly take no particular side in an argument are inherently less biased and are consequently more reliable. On the other hand this wiki does want to promote something - CAM. Consequently you might wish to refuse to allow skeptics to post on article pages, talk pages or both. However that would almost certainly reduce the credibility of the site in the eyes of those not already convinced of the value of CAM. It is a question about the philosophy of the site and who you feel your target audience is.--Bob M 02:41, 23 August 2008 (CDT)
- We do not mind saying that we are a pro-CAM wiki. But that does not mean, we will not try to be structured, well documented and well referenced - as far as possible. It's not about having an agenda. Our effort is to document the existing knowledge base of CAM therapies. We are not against scientific inquiry but we are dead against those half-baked scientists who disclaim everything related to cam in the name of science, without having proper knowledge about it. The CAM community is mature enough to be critical of its own practices. We don't need people here, who are just here to criticize. We are aware of many skeptics registering here, trying to be friendly on the face but actually they are here to test the waters and to stretch our limits. We will again request them to read A note for skeptics. In the long run our credibility will be decided by the CAM community and the general public, which uses CAM. Tech queries
Hi, (sorry again about the snafu on Style guide)...But this raised a couple of questions so some good might've come out of it.
- Do you have a "new editor" restriction in your software that does not allow more than, say, 1 edit per X minutes? If so, that would explain why nothing was working when I tried to revert my error and panic set in.
- No, not at present but we are in the process of implementing it. We have ourselves faced this issue occasionally with long pages. May be it is a software related issue. CAMwikiAdmin 02:11, 23 August 2008 (CDT)
- On most wikis using the ==Format== not only creates a new section but a complimentary section-edit link to work on that section. Being forced to edit an entire page will likely result in a wiki that's more bother than fun and drive new editors away. And as we saw with the style guide, some browsers balk at trying to edit a 97kb document.
- It works that way here also. But we are facing some caching issues due to which the pages load from your local cache and do not show the edit links for each section. If you refresh a page (ctrl+f5), the page will load afresh and you will see the edit links for each section.Hopefully we will be able to resolve this issue soon. - Your server is being slow, while I do not have the technical wherewithal to diagnose any "problem" I would suggest that if you bought the cheapest service from the host you'll soon see why it is the cheapest. The cost will escalate when the bandwidth and CPU overages begin to be charged on an a la carte basis. SexMagicks 10:57, 22 August 2008 (CDT)
- As the site is still small, we are on virtual hosting environment. The server per se is not slow. Yesterday there were some issues with the server which slowed it down. Once the wiki grows, we will move to a semi-dedicated or dedicated server. CAMwikiAdmin 02:11, 23 August 2008 (CDT)
