Causes

Causes of otitis include infection and injury.

Symptoms

Symptoms include pain itching and/or other discomfort in the ear or ear canal. Sometimes drainage from the ear, hearing loss, noise or buzzing in the ear, fever, chills, irritability, malaise, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea are also observed in patients.

Tests and examinations

Red and painful outer ear, swelling of the eardrum can be seen in the otoscpic examiantion.

Complications

Untreated titis may end up in some complications like cholesteatoma (cyst of the middle ear), facial paralysis, mastoiditis, inflammation around the brain and permanent damage to the ear with partial or complete deafness.
